Arie Luyendyk, Sr. - Two time Indy 500 Winner:
I love it! . . . .I think it's a great track - a very good drive. It's got elevation, which is always great.
It's going to take a lot of laps by a lot of people here to get a rhythm going, because it's [a difficult] track. Which is good, because you don't want to have an easy track. It's challenging, and that's what makes it fun. ... The track requires driving skills for sure.
Nick Ham - Driver of the SpeedSource #70 Mazda RX-8 in the GRAND AM Sports Car Series and winner of the 2008 The Rolex 24 Hours:
Exhilarating . . . .four or five "brave corners." It's going to take people a while to learn it.
Really enjoyed driving it. A really nice job conforming to contours of the land.
Great places for faster cars to pass slower cars. But also lots of chances for little cars to catch up to bigger cars.. . . . If you're into trail braking, plenty of opportunities.
Mike Pettiford - Twenty-two time SCCA Rocky Mountain Division National Champion and first driver in SCCA history to win 3 Division Championships in the same year.:
Without a doubt the best track ever in Colorado. Ever! Including the great old CDR!
More challenging than I thought. Really fast and technical.
Great fun. Brings a big smile to my face regardless of whether driving a car or riding a motorcycle.
Ross Bentley - Successful entrepreneur, business-owner, professional championship-winning race car driver, author of a best-selling series of performance driving books, and one of the most sought-after coaches in North America:
Many of the newer tracks lack character, but High Plains Raceway seems to have character built into it. The layout is awesome - it has a little of every kind of turn, will produce great racing, and is safe. It's certainly a challenging track, with a few turns that will cause drivers to scratch their heads figuring out how best to get through them. More than anything, it's a fun track to drive!
Randy Pobst - Driver of the new K-PAX/3R S60 Volvo in the Speed World Challenge Series.
High Plains Raceway has a great variety of turns and hills, and a lot of them, including a feature most new tracks lack, a fast corner onto the long straight. The more corners a circuit has, the better I like it, and High Plains has loads.
Andy Pilgram - Driver of the 2009 K-PAX/3R Volvo S60 AWD in the Speed World Challenge. Twelve year veteran professional driver in not only the Speed World Challenge, but also the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car and American Le Mans Series.
The track is very challenging indeed. Challenging to drive and challenging to learn. I think anyone driving there and getting it right will be at home anywhere else in the country on any other track. It had real passing zones which are lacking on may new tracks. The track reminds me of some older European tracks with great multiple camber corners and blind apex's. Great stuff!!

Virtually every 2009 weekend at HPR is booked by various amateur racing organizations. Each club has their own rules and regulations about participating in their events. This normally usually requires membership and, of course, conformance with their respective rules. High Plains Raceway will become one of the nation's great tracks and facilities. With its rolling terrain, it will be a memorable and challenging circuit. The facility is located on U.S. Highway 36, 17 miles east of Byers. This is only 60 miles (and less than one hour) east of metropolitan Denver with numerous accommodations within 20 miles of the track.
To reach the track, exit I-70 at Byers (exit #316) and then take Highway 36 due east for 17 miles.
As can be seen from the topo lines in the image above and as portrayed on the diagram of elevation changes shown below, the terrain is not flat! And that is the real "beauty" of the site. It has marvelous rolling terrain features creating several elevation changes of up to 70 feet.
The property for High Plains Raceway is BIG! The full rectangular site is 460 acres! (For a frame of reference, the Second Creek property was only 55 acres). The first phase of the project will only need to use about half of the acreage, the east end. The large rectangular area shown above the paddock is a future autocross/skid pad area which is not part of initial phase.
